Perla Layú
Perla Layú, is an artist based in Oaxaca, Mexico. Her materials are seeds and plants. She makes sculptures and installations that make one present with the subtle beauty and the tremendous value of seeds. You can have a glimpse into her work here; Proyecto Semillas Nómadas.
In April 2023, Perla and I, set out on our adventure to make some photos, unsure of where we might end up. In terrain that I know, I usually choose a location in advance, but part of the gift of creating in different regions, is being taken to unexpected places. We drove down some old dirt roads through candelabras of cactus, and past fields of agave. At one point, Perla said “I know where we are going.”
