Willow Daughter
Laurence is an incredible basket maker who reside between Salt Spring Island and Quebec. She is also a kind, thoughtful and engaging teacher, who has inspired me to make 3 baskets under her guidance.
Make it stand out
There is something so rewarding about her workshops, whether you are a seasoned weaver, or this is your first experience. You bring home a basket, but you also bring home the incredible experience of weaving in her company.
This set of images were made on a day that I went to watch Laurence prepare willow for a weaving workshop. She lit a fire, and soaked them overnight, to bring flexibility to the willow.
I also dropped by a workshop she was teaching at Beaver Point Hall, on Salt Spring Island. It is amazing to see how happy and simultaneously focused her students are. She creates an atmosphere of quiet commitment to the craft. Whenever someone needs help, she seems to appear right over their shoulder.

This last image is from a set I made when I went an made a beautiful basket to carry my art supplies and my camera. This workshop was held at Wisdom of the Earth. The sound of birds, and the dappled light was woven into the baskets we brought home.
