Colectivo 1050º

Colectivo 1050º is a wonderful organization in Oaxaca, Mexico which educates, holds workshops, and curates beautiful ceramics from around the state. Each region of Oaxaca uses their own clay, and techniques of firing. Colectivo 1050 works with craftspeople in different communities, making sure people understand the nuances of this work, and making sure that the artists are supported to keep creating in their local styles. This photo session is of my visit to Margarita. In order to document her working I first had to attend a fiesta at the chuch, stay with her while she made 200 tortillas for a baptism, water her garden, feed her animals, and take lunch to her parents down the road. Once that was all done, she worked on one of her bowls, before heading to the baptism. I documented most of this adventure, which shares some of her work, but also some of the context of how and where she lives.
